Proof Silver Eagles were included in the American Eagle Collection a few months after the official premiere of the program.

The debuting coin in 1986 was a one-ounce silver bullion coin, the US Silver Eagle.

Both coins share the same settings. They are one-ounce coins made of 99.9% fine silver, legal tender with a USD 1 denomination. 

Their designs embody the core American values and principles established by the Founding Fathers. But in Proof Silver Eagles, Lady Liberty and the Heraldic Eagle are enhanced by the proof finish. 

These Proof Silver Eagles are specifically produced at the West Point Mint, one of the branches of the US Mint, and bear its mintmark.

The Design

On the reverse, the Eagle was depicted with the national seal on its chest, arrows and olive branches on its talons, and a banner with the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM” on its beak. The Thirteen Colonies are represented by the thirteen stars atop.

Engravings regarding face value, weight, metal content, and purity read “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR.”

On the obverse, Lady Liberty is enveloped in the American flag, holding oak and laurel branches in her arm. The words “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the year of issuance are also engraved.
