2016-W PCGS SP-70 1/2 oz Walking Liberty Half Dollar Gold Coin - Adolph A. Weinman Label
In 2016, the U.S. Mint issued a remarkable series of gold restrikes to commemorate the 100th anniversary of some of America’s most iconic coin designs. Among them were the Mercury Dime, Standing Liberty Quarter, and the Walking Liberty Half Dollar—each reborn in radiant 24-karat gold.
The Walking Liberty Gold Half Dollar was the final release in this celebrated trio. Struck from 1/2 oz of .9999 fine gold at the West Point Mint, it bears the distinguished “W” mint mark. With a limited mintage of just 65,512 coins, this commemorative issue quickly became a standout modern collectible.
Today, SD Bullion proudly offers the 2016-W 1/2 oz Walking Liberty Half Dollar Gold Coin, slabbed and graded SP-70 by PCGS and sealed with the coveted Adolph A. Weinman Label.

The Design
The obverse faithfully recreates Adolph A. Weinman’s legendary Walking Liberty design, later adapted for the American Silver Eagle series. Lady Liberty strides toward the rising sun, draped in the American flag, carrying oak branches as symbols of strength. Her outstretched arm conveys hope and opportunity. Inscriptions include “LIBERTY,” the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” the “W” mint mark, and the year of issue.
On the reverse, a powerful Bald Eagle perches on a rocky outcrop with wings poised for flight while grasping oak branches in its talons. The design is surrounded by “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” along with inscriptions denoting weight, purity, and denomination: “AU 24K 1/2 OZ” and “HALF DOLLAR.”
A PCGS SP-70 Coin
PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service) is internationally respected for evaluating coins according to the Sheldon Grading Scale, which ranges from 1 to 70.
“SP” stands for Specimen, indicating a coin struck with exceptional care and finish—superior to standard business strikes but distinct from proofs. A 70 grade represents absolute perfection, with no visible imperfections.
