2016-W 1/4 oz Standing Liberty Gold Quarter Dollar Coin with Box & COA

The Centennial of three remarkable designs in American coinage history was celebrated by the US Mint with commemorative gold coins.

The 1/4 oz Standing Liberty Gold Quarter Dollar Coin is the second celebrated design to receive a special edition in 2016. It was designed by Hermon MacNeil and was originally featured in the circulating silver quarters from 1916 to 1930 in the US.

The Standing Liberty commemorative strike consists of a 24k gold quarter dollar coin, produced in a limited strike in the US Mint’s West Point branch.

Coin Highlights

Contains 1/4 oz of .9999 pure gold;
Commemorative edition;
Issued by the West-Point branch, hence carries the “W” mint mark;
Limited strike of 91,752 units;
Housed in the original mint box with a certificate of authenticity;
The obverse showcases the Standing Liberty design;
The reverse design features a flying Bald Eagle.

The Design

The obverse showcases Lady Liberty as a warrior, carrying a shield and an olive branch, as she walks through an opening in a wall adorned with the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” and 13 stars, representing the Thirteen Original Colonies.

The accompanying engravings are "LIBERTY" on top, "AU24K," and "1/4 oz.," referring to gold content and weight, and "2016," standing for the year of mintage. The “W” mint mark is discreetly engraved on the lower left, and the artist's initials are mirrored on the opposite side.

The reverse features a flying Bald Eagle, encircled by inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “QUARTER DOLLAR,” and again, thirteen stars. The motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM” lies above the eagle.

Mintage

In 2016, the US Mint celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Mercury Silver Dime, the Standing Liberty Silver Quarter, and the Walking Liberty Silver Half Dollar by issuing a limited series of Gold Coins replicating these iconic designs.

The 1/4 oz Standing Liberty Gold Quarter Dollar Coin is the second design in the series.

This quarter-dollar coin is minted from 1/4 Troy oz of 99.99% pure gold and is recognized as legal tender. Issued by the West Point branch of the US Mint, it features a “W” mint mark on the obverse and was produced in a limited edition of 91,752 coins.
