2016-W 1/10 oz Mercury Dime Centennial Gold Coin with Box & COA
In 2016, three remarkable coin designs in American coinage history reached their centenary. The Walking Liberty Half Dollar, the Standing Liberty Quarter Dollar, and the Mercury Dime became gold coins of commemorative editions.
The Mercury Dime was the first coin from this three-set prepared by the US Mint in 2016. It weighs 1/10 oz of 24k gold and was issued by the West Point branch. It reproduces the original Mercury Dime designed by Adolph A. Weinman, which circulated in the US as the 10-cent official coin from 1916 to 1945.

The Design
The obverse features Liberty's left profile, wearing a winged pileus cap. The winged cap represents the freedom of thought, but it resembles Mercury, the messenger Roman god.
The image is engraved with the word “LIBERTY,” the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” on the lower left, the year of issuance at the bottom, and the “W” West Point mint mark on the right.
The reverse design showcases Roman fasces, rods bound together around an axe, wrapped in olive branches, symbolizing power and authority.
The engravings surrounding the image read “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “ONE DIME.” It also contains the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “AU 24K 1/10 OZ,” referring to the coin’s metal content, purity, and weight.
