The US Mint pays tribute to the importance of the First Ladies in American history by immortalising their effigies and their lives by crafting the First Spouse Series.

Forty-one incredible women who supported their husbands during their time in the US Presidential office were depicted in half-ounce coins made of 99.99% pure gold, issued through the West Mint branch from 2007 to 2016.

One of them is Jacqueline Kennedy. 

Jacqueline Kennedy, wife of President John F. Kennedy, served as First Lady of the United States from 1961 to 1963. Renowned for her elegance, grace, and sophisticated style, she became an iconic figure worldwide. Jacqueline's efforts to restore and preserve the White House and her dedication to the arts left a lasting cultural legacy. Her poise during her husband's tragic assassination further cemented her place as a beloved and admired public figure.

The Design

The obverse displays Jacqueline Kennedy’s frontal facial portrayal, encircled by engravings that inform her name, the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “35th 1961-1963” referring to her husband’s presidential period, “LIBERTY,” “2015,” and the West Point “W” mint mark. 

The reverse side showcases the saucer magnolia species Mrs Kennedy selected to be planted in the White House garden near the eternal flame at her husband's grave in Arlington National Cemetery. The petals extend across the globe, with their tips linking the locations of some of her most significant diplomatic visits.

It is encircled by inscriptions that read: “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “$10,” “1/2 OZ .9999 FINE GOLD.”
