2014-W NGC/PCGS PF/PR-70 3/4 oz Kennedy Gold Coin
The 2014-W 3/4 oz Kennedy Gold Coin is a commemorative proof issue released by the U.S. Mint to mark the 50th anniversary of the Kennedy Half Dollar.
The Kennedy Half Dollar was first struck in 1964 by the U.S. Mint, following the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in 1963, as a lasting tribute to his legacy.
Kennedy embodied American leadership, motivating a generation through his vision and optimism. His presidency influenced pivotal moments such as the Cold War and the Civil Rights Movement, while reshaping public service and expanding U.S. presence worldwide.
To honor the coin’s 50th anniversary in 2014, the U.S. Mint released exceptional Kennedy Half Dollar coins in multiple sizes and finishes, struck in .9999 fine gold, including a 3/4 oz version. This specific issue is a Proof gold coin produced at the West Point Mint and features the distinctive “W” mint mark.
Today, SD Bullion offers 2014-W Kennedy Gold Coins, graded PR/PF-70 by NGC or PCGS.

The Design
The obverse features former President Kennedy’s effigy, designed by Gilroy Roberts, similar to the original silver half-dollar coin from 1964. It is inscribed with the word “LIBERTY,” the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the dual dates of 1964-2014.
The reverse displays the Heraldic Eagle, inspired by the Presidential Seal, designed by U.S. Mint Sculptor-Engraver Frank Gasparro.
The accompanying inscriptions refer to the coin’s weight, fineness, metal content, and face value, reading “3/4 oz .9999 FINE GOLD” and “HALF DOLLAR.”
An NGC/ PCGS PF/PR-70 coin
NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Company) and PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service) are third-party services that appraise and grade coins independently of sovereign mints, using the Sheldon Grading Scale, which ranges from 1 to 70.
For both services, PR or PF refers to proof coins, which means coins with a mirror-like background and matte, engraved design elements, produced for collection rather than widespread circulation. 70 is the highest grade on the scale and is attributed to a coin with no visible flaws.
