The Coin’s Design

This side also includes the inscriptions “LIBERTY,” the year of issue, and the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” 

The reverse depicts John Mercanti’s Heraldic eagle with spread wings around a star-spangled shield, carrying the “E PLURIBUS UNUM” banner, arrows, and oak branches. The thirteen stars above the eagle represent the original colonies. 

The inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR,” and the “S” mint mark from the San Francisco Mint accompany the image.
