The Design

The Heraldic Eagle, which carries the national seal on its chest, was imprinted beneath thirteen stars representing the original Thirteen Colonies. There are arrows and olive branches in its talons and a banner with the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM” on its beak. 

The reverse design also includes the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR,” which stand for face value, weight, metal content, and purity.

On the obverse, the Walking Liberty is folded in the American flag and carries oak and laurel branches in her arm. The inscriptions “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the year of issuance accompany the image.

Because it is a proof coin, its surfaces exhibit a mirror-like luster, which contrasts with the design’s frosted image.

The Sheldon Grading Scale, which ranges from 1 to 70, is used as a parameter for third-party services, like PCGS, which stands for Professional Coin Grading Service, to appraise and grade coins.
