2007 NGC PF-69 UCAM South African Gold Krugerrand 40th Anniversary 4-Coin Proof Set
2007 marked the 40th anniversary of the first release of the South African Gold Krugerrand coins, and the South African Mint celebrated this milestone by releasing a stunning coin set of Krugerrand Proof Coins.
The South African Mint’s first release of Gold Krugerrands occurred in 1967, through a 22k gold coin, and it was the first gold bullion coin aimed at private investments.
This coin set comprises four 22k Proof Gold Krugerrands: a 1 oz, a 1/2 oz, a 1/4 oz, and a 1/10 oz coin. Each coin is certified by NGC as PF-70 with an Ultra Cameo effect.

The Design
The obverse showcases the left-profile portrayal of Paul Krugerrand, an essential political and military personality for the country’s independence. The words engraved accompanying his effigy are the country’s name, written in English and Afrikaans.
The Springbok Antelope, a native animal that became a national symbol, is stamped on the reverse. In addition to the coin’s name, “KRUGERRAND,” the engravings inform the year of issuance, weight, and metal content in both languages.
An NGC PF-69 Ultra Cameo coin
NGC - Numismatic Guaranty Company works independently from sovereign mints, appraising and grading coins using the Sheldon Scale, which ranks coins from 1 to 70.
NGC calls “UCAM,” or Ultra Cameo, the Proof Coin, hence PF, produced for collection purposes with deeply mirrored fields and heavily matte design elements on both sides of the coin. The number 69 means the coin's original luster is preserved despite almost invisible minor contact marks or flaws.
