2010 NGC PF-70 First Strikes South African Gold Krugerrand 4-Coin Set with Box and COA
Gold Krugerrands were the first gold bullion coins specifically issued for private investments. Introduced to the bullion market in 1967, they remain a favorite among investors and collectors.
The South African Mint has released these coins in varied size options made of 22k gold, which is approximately 91.67% pure. Despite not having a face value, they are considered legal tender, fully backed by the South African Government, with their value based on their gold content.
In 2010, the South African Mint prepared a special coin set comprising Gold Krugerrands weighing one-ounce, half-ounce, quarter-ounce, and tenth-ounce denominations.
These coin sets, in particular, were taken from the mint within the first 30 days of their official release and housed in an original mint box with a Certificate of Authenticity.
Today, SD Bullion has 2010 South African Gold Krugerrand 4-Coin Sets with Box and COA available for purchase. They are sealed and certified by NGC as perfect PF-70 coins.

The Design
A portrait of Paul Krugerrand, an essential political and military personality for the country’s independence, stamps the obverse design. The words engraved accompanying his effigy are the country’s name, written in English and Afrikaans.
The reverse features the Springbok Antelope, a native animal that became a national symbol. The imagery is accompanied by inscriptions that describe the coin’s name, metal content in both languages and weight.
An NGC PF-70 First Strikes Coin
NGC, which stands for Numismatic Guaranty Company, operates independently of sovereign mints, evaluating and grading coins. Utilizing the Sheldon Scale, a grading system from 1 to 70, they meticulously assess coins based on their condition.
PF stands for Proof Coin, indicating a coin produced for collection purposes, which exhibits mirror-like surfaces in contrast with frosted design elements. 70 is the highest grade and indicates a coin with no visible flaws.
NGC considers “First Strikes” the coins purchased and taken to its evaluation within the first 30 days of public release by the original Mint.
