The Design

The obverse portrays King Charles III, designed by Martin Jennings. The inscriptions accompanying His Majesty’s effigy read “CHARLES III·D·G·REX·F·D·100·POUNDS,” which stands for the King’s name, the Latin initials “By the Grace of God, King, Defender of the Faith,” and the coin’s monetary denomination.

Britannia, designed by Philip Nathan in 1987 on the reverse side, stands in the fierce wind, wearing a helmet and holding a trident to represent her naval history and the Union Jack Shield. 

The first circle around Britannia has micro engravings that read “Decus et Tutamen.” On the outer rim, the inscription “‘BRITANNIA’ 2026’ 1 oz’ 9999’ FINE’ GOLD’” describes the series, issuance, weight, purity, and metal content.

Anti-counterfeiting 

Four anti-counterfeiting measures are incorporated into the reverse design.

The first anticounterfeiting measure is the micro-text “Decus et Tutamen,” which means “an ornament and a safeguard” around Britannia’s artistry. As you move the coin, the image on the lower left changes from a padlock to a trident. The movement also brings life to the waves in the background because of the surface animation. Finally, Britannia’s shield is imprinted with tincture lines alternating patterns.
