$20 Liberty Double Eagle Gold Coin - Type 2 - AU - Random Years

The $20 Liberty Double Eagle Gold Coin is a masterpiece of American craftsmanship and holds relevant numismatic value. 

The US Mint first released them in 1850 as a regular circulation USD 20 coin with .9675 oz of gold content until 1907, when the $20 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle Gold Coin replaced them.

Details adjustments led to reverse design variations during the production of Liberty Double Eagles. The second type of these $ 20 coins, crafted from mid-1866 to 1876, is marked with the addition of the motto “In God We Trust.”

The Design

On the obverse, James B. Longacre designed Lady Liberty. She is wearing a tiara engraved with the word “LIBERTY " and is surrounded by thirteen five-pointed stars, which refer to the Thirteen Original Colonies. The year of mintage is at the bottom rim.

The Heraldic Eagle, on the reverse, has spread wings, the national shield in front of its chest, arrows in its talons, and the banner “E PLURIBUS UNUM” in its beak. 

It is also inscribed with the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the coin's face value of "TWENTY D."
