The Design
The obverse features Generals Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson on horseback. The motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” is engraved on top and flanked by stars. On the lower left, the inscriptions read “STONE MOUNTAIN” and “1925.”
The reverse showcases a bald eagle with open wings perched on a mountain crag. The words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM” arch over the image. The engravings beside the eagle read, “MEMORIAL TO THE VALUE OF THE SOLDIER OF THE SOUTH.” The last engravings at the bottom rim are “LIBERTY,” and the coin’s face value of “HALF DOLLAR.”
