The Peace Silver Dollar is one of the most commonly collected series of US Mint Silver coins. Graded Mint State 64 by NGC*, this high grade 1923 Peace Dollar is a great example of the date and a perfect coin to add to your collection. This series is sought after because of it’s arresting design and short run of production. It was minted for only 10 years, 1921-1928, then again briefly in 1934 and 1935. Putting together a date set is relatively easy compared to say the Morgan Dollar which was minted for 28 years.


The Peace Dollar’s famously lively appearance is in contrast to the more austere designs of Charles Barber and George Morgan during the previous 40 years. The Peace Dollar was the result of a competition held by the US Mint to find the next—and what would prove to be final—silver dollar design. The contest was to design a coin with the theme of peace to celebrate the victory of WWI. The winner of the competition, Anthony de Francisci, was the youngest competitor at age 34 and his wife was the model for Lady Liberty depicted on the obverse.
