1914-S PCGS MS-63 $20 St. Gaudens Double Eagle Gold Coin - Old Green Holder

From 1907 to 1933, the US Mint produced Double Eagle Gold Coins for widespread circulation as the official $20 in the US.

These USD 20 coins hold .9675 Troy oz of gold content and showcase Saint-Gaudens' design, rescued decades later to stamp the obverse of the American Gold Eagle coins.

Those issued by the US Mint through the San Francisco Mint carry the “S” mint mark.

The economic collapse of the 1930s caused a massive practice of melting gold coins down for their gold content. Because of that, only some of the Pre-1933 gold coins survived the confiscation act.

Today, SD Bullion offers 1914-S $20 St. Gauden Double Eagle Gold Coins graded as MS-63 coins and sealed in the rare Old Green Holders, which PCGS used to encapsulate coins from 1989 to 1998.

  • Evaluated, graded, and encapsulated as an MS-63 coin by PCGS;

The Design

The obverse depicts Lady Liberty moving forward, symbolizing national progress. Her torch signifies enlightenment, while the olive branch represents peace.

The Capitol Building, the word "LIBERTY," the year of issuance, and the “S” mint mark are part of the design.

On the reverse, a bald eagle soars towards the sun, with the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "TWENTY DOLLARS."

A PCGS MS-63 Coin

PCGS - Professional Coin Grading Service is an independent third-party company that appraises and grades coins based on the Sheldon Scale, which ranks coins from 1 to 70 according to their condition.

According to the scale, MS stands for Mint State, indicating a coin produced in a business sample format. Grade 63 indicates that the coin may present marks and minor visible hairlines.
