Designed by Christian Gobrecht and first struck in 1839, the $5 Liberty Half Eagle Gold Coins are important pieces of US history. These particular Random Year $5 Liberty Half Eagle Gold Coins (BU) bear the much-desired distinction of never having been circulated.

These designs were used for close to 70 years (1839 to 1908) with only a few minor design and specification changes in 1840 and1866. Christian Gobrecht was the third Chief Engraver of the United States Mint from 1840 until his death in 1844. His Liberty Head designs featured on US coinage for close to 70 years and are still used as an inspiration for designs on modern coins.

Each of these coins contains 0.2419 troy ounces of pure gold. Although their $5 (USD) face value is still clearly imprinted on their reverses, they are worth far more today thanks to the rise in the price of gold from over a century and a half ago, their rarity, as well as their historical significance.

The obverses bear a magnificent rendition of Lady Liberty's left-facing head; the reverses feature a marvelous Heraldic Bald Eagle design inspired by the Great Seal of the United States of America.

Pre-1933 gold coins like these Liberty Half Eagles attract both collectors and investors. While investors love the diversification they bring to any precious metals portfolio, collectors appreciate their historical significance and rarity. Grab these Random Year $5 Liberty Half Eagle Gold Coins (BU) from SD Bullion and add stunning designs and vintage coins to your coin collection in one fell swoop.
