PCGS PR-70 1 oz American Gold Eagle Proof Coin - Random Year
The US Mint first released the US Gold Eagles in 1986 as the debuting gold coin of the American Gold Eagle Collection.
The premiere coin was a 22k Gold Eagle bullion coin containing a full Troy oz of gold. The alloy comprises 3% silver and 5.33% copper for added durability, which makes them slightly larger than other popular gold coins in the market.
Proof Gold Eagles were introduced a few months later. Their mirror-like finish enhances the standard designs of Lady Liberty and the Eagle and highlights the most intricate details.
SD Bullion offers 1 oz US Gold Eagle Proof coins of varied mintages, graded as PR-70 coins by PCGS, randomly selected from our inventory.

The Obverse Design

In the image, Lady Liberty walks forward, torch in hand, representing enlightenment and hope. The design also contains the Capitol Building, the word “LIBERTY,” and the coin’s mintage year.
Reverse Design Type 1
Type 1 refers to Miley Busiek's original reverse design.
It portrays a family of eagles, and inscriptions detailing weight, metal content, and face value read, “1 OZ. FINE GOLD—50 DOLLARS.”
The engravings “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and the mottos “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST” complete the design.
Reverse Design Type 2
Type 2 corresponds to the design update 2021, which celebrates the 35th anniversary of the American Eagles Program.
Jennie Norris depicted a more natural bald eagle in a close-up with a deep gaze and a highlighted hooked beak, accompanied by the same inscriptions as in the original design.
A PCGS PR-70 Coin
PCGS—Professional Coin Grading Service operates independently of sovereign mints. It evaluates and grades coins using the Sheldon Scale, a grading system from 1 to 70.
PR stands for Proof Coin, indicating a coin produced for collection purposes, which exhibits mirror-like surfaces in contrast with frosted design elements. 70 is the highest grade and indicates a coin with no visible flaws.
