The Obverse Design

The design is accompanied by the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the coin’s description of weight, metal content, and face value reading “1/2 OZ. FINE GOLD—25 DOLLARS.”

Reverse Design Type 2

The Gold Eagles received a reverse design update in 2021 to celebrate the 35 years of the American Eagles Program.

The new reverse design, created by Jennie Norris, showcases the majestic bald eagle in a close-up depiction with a deep gaze and highlighted hooked beak. 

The inscriptions are the same as the original design. They feature the mottos "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST," the nation’s name "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "25 DOLLARS 1/2 OZ. FINE GOLD," referring to the coin’s face value, weight, and metal content.
