The Obverse Design

The obverse replicates Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ 1907 20-dollar Double Eagle Coin design, in which Lady Liberty marches forward, carrying a torch and an olive branch. 

The march symbolizes the nation's progress in search of peace and enlightenment. The word “LIBERTY” is engraved on the upper rim. The Capitol Building is on the lower left, and the coin’s mintage year is on the right.

Reverse Design Type 1

The debuting reverse illustration, designed by Miley Busiek, showcases a family of Bald Eagles. In the image, a female eagle cherishes her hatchling under her wing while the male eagle perches on their nest. 

The word “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” is engraved on top, and the mottos “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST” are aside, along with weight, metal content, and face value.

Reverse Design Type 2

A new reverse design, created by Jennie Norris in 2021, celebrated the 35th anniversary of the American Eagles Program. Norris’ design showcases the majestic bald eagle in a close-up depiction with a deep gaze and highlighted hooked beak.

The same inscriptions from the original design are repeated in the new one.

A PR/PF-69 coin

NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Company) and PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service) are third-party services that appraise and grade coins independently of sovereign mints, using the Sheldon Grading Scale, which ranges from 1 to 70.

For both services, PR or PF refers to proof coins, which means coins with a mirror-like surface background and matte engraved design elements, produced for collection purposes rather than widespread circulation. 

Grade 69 is attributed to almost perfect coins with unnoticeable flaws.
