Another marine-themed release joins the CIT lineup of minigold coins released this year with the CIT Palau Gold Sea Turtle 0.5 Gram Coin. These coins are shaped like sea turtles, and use the Big Gold Minting (BGM) technique developed by CIT and Germany-based Mayer Mint. This technique allows larger surface area using relatively lower weights of gold. Although CIT started out as a precious metals trading company in 1970, it has slowly expanded into handling projects involving the manufacture of legal tender coins and medals. These particular turtle-shaped coins are struck on behalf of the Government of Palau, which recognizes the coins as legal tender. Every coin carries a $1 (USD) face value backed by the Palau Government. Moreover, these coins contain 0.50 grams of 0.9999 pure gold. The obverse sides of these gold coins feature the crest of Palau, which is surrounded by the face value of the coin and the name of the issuing country – Republic of Palau. On the other hand, the reverse side of the coin is shaped exactly like a sea turtle. The unique turtle-shaped coin not only gives the artist ample surface area to unleash his/her creativity, it also provides a platform to depict the beloved amniotes accurately. The BGM technique makes gold bullion products more affordable as it can be used to strike smaller weights of gold to reach the same size as a heavier coin. These CIT Palau Gold Sea Turtle 0.5 Gram Coins will stand out in any coin collection due to their uniqueness.
