The Chinese Mint has been producing Chinese Gold Panda Coins every year since 1982. However, they were only recently changed over to the metric system for their weights. 2016 was the first year that the Gold Panda was minted in a weight of 30 grams. From 1982 through 2015, they were minted using one troy ounce. In previous years, the Chinese Mint has minted Gold Pandas in 5 oz and 12 oz weights.

Panda coins are very popular with collectors because of their ever-changing designs, their limited mintages, and their beautiful artistry.

The obverse features the beautiful Hall of Prayer in the Temple of Heaven. Above it, written in Chinese letters, is 'People's Republic of China.’ The year of issue is minted at the bottom of the coin on this side.

The reverse will be different depending on the year that the gold coin is from. All designs will feature the Chinese symbol for Panda. It will also feature a Chinese Panda design in some regard as well, as it is the namesake for this gold coin. The majority of the designs will also feature bamboo. This side also features “30g .999 Au” at the top or bottom of the design.
