The Design

The reverse features Phillip Nathan’s 1987 design, in which Britannia is portrayed as a warrior standing in fierce wind and crashing waves, wearing a Corinthian helmet, holding a trident, and bearing the Union Jack Shield. 

It is surrounded by micro-engravings that read “Decus et Tutamen,” and a second circle which features the coin’s issuance, weight, purity, and metal content description through the engravings “‘BRITANNIA’ 2027’ 1/10 oz’ 999’ FINE’ SILVER.’” 

The obverse, designed by Martin Jenninng, portrays King Charles III. His Majesty’s left-profile bust is encircled by “CHARLES III·D·G·REX·F·D·20 PENCE,” which stands for the King’s name, the Latin initials for “By the Grace of God, King, Defender of the Faith,” and the coin’s monetary denomination.

Anti-Counterfeiting Features

The reverse incorporates four distinct security features designed to enhance authentication.

The micro-text “DECUS ET TUTAMEN” provides an additional layer of detail and security around Britannia. A latent image in the lower-left field changes between a padlock and a trident when viewed from different angles. The background waves also feature surface animation that creates a dynamic visual effect as the coin is tilted.

Britannia’s shield features finely detailed tincture lines, using alternating patterns inspired by traditional heraldic engraving to further distinguish the design and strengthen its security features.
