2026 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle Coin
American Gold Eagles are the official gold bullion coin of the US, combining a historic and elegant design that represents the Founding Fathers' core values with cutting-edge craftsmanship.
Augustus Saint-Gaudens’s Lady Liberty and Jennie Norris’s Bald Eagle bring those values to life on the obverse and reverse, respectively.
The 2026 1/2 oz US Gold Eagles weigh a full 1/2 troy ounce of actual gold content. However, the alloy is incrementally enriched with copper and silver to improve durability, resulting in a 22-karat coin.
Right now, you can purchase the 2026 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle Coins online from SD Bullion, the US Mint’s Authorized Purchaser of gold bullion.

2026 American Gold Eagle Design
The American Eagle Program replicated the $20 Double Eagle Gold Coins issued from 1907 to 1933, created by the famous sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens, to use on Gold Eagles.
The obverse features Lady Liberty at the center, confidently striding forward with a torch of enlightenment in her right hand and an olive branch of peace in her left. She represents the Founding Fathers’ ideals of freedom, unity, and progress.
Behind her, the Capitol Building is set against the rays of a rising sun, while the mintage year appears on the right and “LIBERTY” arches along the upper rim. The design is framed by a circle of six-pointed stars.
The reverse, designed by Jennie Norris to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the American Eagle Program, showcases the majestic head of a bald eagle with a commanding gaze, symbolizing America’s strength, resolve, and forward-looking spirit.
Above the eagle’s head are the mottos "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST". Encircling the outer rim are the engravings "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "25 DOLLARS 1/2 OZ. FINE GOLD."
Security Features
The 2026 American Gold Eagle coins feature a reeded edge as an anti-counterfeiting security feature, giving investors the peace of mind that their investment is authentic.
2026 American Gold Eagle Mintage
The 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle is the heaviest fractional option in the American Eagles Program, crafted from 22-karat gold (.9167 fineness).
To increase durability, the U.S. Mint alloys the gold with 3% silver and 5.33% copper. Despite this blend, each coin still contains a full half troy ounce of gold, giving it a slightly greater total weight than many other international gold coins.
The coin weighs 0.5455 troy ounces (or 16.966 grams) and has a diameter of 1.063 inches (27.00 mm).
The American Gold Eagle Series
The U.S. Mint introduced the American Eagle Program in 1986, initially featuring the American Gold Eagle and American Silver Eagle. The series later expanded to include the American Platinum Eagle in 1997 and the American Palladium Eagle in 2017.
For added investment flexibility, the gold coins are also available in fractional sizes, including 1/2 oz ($25 face value), 1/4 oz ($10 face value), and 1/10 oz ($5 face value) options.
In 2021, to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the US Gold Eagles, the US Mint introduced a new design by AIP artist Jennie Norris.
