The Design

The obverse replicates Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ Lady Liberty design featured in the $20 Double Eagle Coin in 1907.

It depicts Lady Liberty, America's feminine guise, walking forward, carrying a torch and an olive branch, symbolizing the nation's march to progress, peace, and enlightenment.

The Capitol Building is imprinted on the lower left, the word “LIBERTY” on top, the coin’s mintage year to the right, and the “W” mint mark below the date. Stars encircle the whole design.

Jennie Norris created the current reverse design, which portrays the majestic eagle in a left-profile close-up with a hooked beak and a staring gaze. 

In addition to the engravings that inform the coin’s face value, weight, and metal content, the image also contains the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and the mottos “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST.”

An NGC PF-70 Ultra Cameo First Day of Issue Coin 

Third-party services like NGC—Numismatic Guaranty Company use the Sheldon Scale as a parameter to appraise and grade coins.

NGC considers “First Day of Issue” a coin purchased from its original mint on the first day of its release and submitted to NGC appraisal.

The initials PF stand for Proof Coin, indicating a coin produced for collection purposes. It exhibits mirror-like surfaces in contrast with frosted design elements. The expression “UCAM” or Ultra Cameo means this contrast is deeper and more intense than in other proof coins.

Grade 70 is the highest and is attributed to coins with no visible marks.
