Created in collaboration with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products, the Comic Art Coin and Medal Program pays tribute to comic book art as a defining element of American culture.

This remarkable collection highlights heroes who embody the nation’s core ideals and timeless values. The first issue showcases Superman™ and his alter ego, Clark Kent™, enduring emblems of courage, hope, and strength.

The debut medal contains 1 troy oz of .999 fine silver and was crafted at the Philadelphia Mint, though it bears no mint mark. This particular piece was acquired on its release day and sent for NGC certification.

The Design

The artwork was designed by Joseph Menna, former DC artist and now Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint, whose initials are engraved on the medal.

The obverse depicts Superman™ soaring high above his adoptive family’s farm. The sun shines brilliantly over the fields where young Clark Kent™ grew up, symbolizing the warmth, guidance, and inspiration that shaped his heroic character. The word “LIBERTY” is elegantly inscribed within the scene.

The reverse portrays a touching moment between a young Clark Kent and his adoptive father, Jonathan Kent, on their family farm. Clark looks skyward toward a passing airplane, a nod to his dreams of flight, while Jonathan observes with quiet pride. The inscriptions “SUPERMAN” and “HOPE AND STRENGTH” encapsulate the spirit of the hero’s timeless journey.

Third-party services such as NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Company) use the Sheldon Scale, which ranges from 1 to 70, as a standard for grading coins worldwide.

For NGC, a “First Day of Issue” coin is a sample purchased from its original mint on the first day of its official release and submitted to its appraisal.

MS stands for Mint State and corresponds to a coin issued in the same format as a widely circulated sample. However, it has never been in circulation, so it shows no signs of wear, tear, or contact with other coins. Hence, the grade 70.
