2024-W PCGS PR-70 First Strike 1 oz American Silver Eagle Proof Coin
The American Silver Eagle is the official silver coin in the US. The US Mint introduced it in 1986 after the signing of the Liberty Coin Act.
A Silver Eagle coin weighs 1 Troy Oz of 99.9% fine silver. It is legal tender with a 1-dollar face value and features iconic national symbols on both sides.
In addition to the bullion version, the US Mint produces Proof Silver Eagles, which display a unique brilliant aspect thanks to the proof finish. The “W” mint mark, referring to the West Point branch in charge of their production, is an exclusive feature of the proof version.
Today, SD Bullion offers 2024-W 1 oz American Silver Eagle Proof Coins, made available for purchase within the first 30 release days in the US Mint, sealed in PCGS slabs, and graded as PR-70 coins.

The Design
The obverse showcases Adolph A. Weinman’s design, in which Lady Liberty, the national feminine personification, has the American flag draped on her shoulder and walks towards the sun. Hence its moniker, Walking Liberty.
In the image, Lady Liberty carries oak branches, and her stretched right arm indicates a welcome sign. It also contains the word “LIBERTY,” the year of issuance, the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the “W’ West Point mint mark.
The reverse displays Emily Damstra’s Bald Eagle perched on a branch with open wings. The design has inscribed “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “ONE DOLLAR,” “1 OZ,” and “FINE SILVER,” informing the coin’s face value, weight, and metal content, and the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”
A PCGS PR-70 First Strike coin
PCGS—Professional Coin Grading Service appraises and grades coins independently from sovereign mints. It uses the Sheldon Scale, which ranges from 1 to 70.
According to PCGS, FS, or “First Strike,” corresponds to a coin issued during the US Mint’s first 30 days of release.
PR refers to proof coins, samples with an exceptional background luster, minted for collection purposes. Grade 70 is given to coins with no visible flaws.
