American Silver Eagles are the US’ official silver coin. It was introduced in the numismatic market in 1986, debuting the American Eagle Program.

In addition to its silver content, US Silver Eagles premiered with a treasured design starring Lady Liberty and the Eagle, the most iconic symbols of national patriotism. 

In 2021, the celebration of the 35th Anniversary of the American Eagle Program updated the reverse design, giving the majestic Eagle a unique depiction designed by artist Emily Damstra.

The Design

The American Eagle Program reproduced Adolph A. Weinman’s Walking Liberty illustration, which was initially stamped on the 1917 Half-Dollar coin.

It showcases Lady Liberty with the American flag draped on her shoulder, walking towards the sun, carrying oak branches, and welcoming new inhabitants.

It also showcases the word “LIBERTY” over the image, the year of issuance on the bottom, the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” on the lower right, and the “W’ West Point mint mark beneath it.

The reverse depicts the Bald Eagle perched on a branch with open wings. The accompanying engravings read “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “ONE DOLLAR,” “1 OZ,” and “FINE SILVER,” added by the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM.” 

A PCGS PR-69 Coin 

The Sheldon Grading Scale ranges from 1 to 70 and is used as a parameter for third-party services, like PCGS, which stands for Professional Coin Grading Service, to appraise and grade coins.

According to the scale, PR stands for Proof Coin, indicating a coin produced for collection purposes, which exhibits mirror-like surfaces in contrast with frosted design elements. 69 is the grade attributed to coins whose flaws are almost invisible.
