The US Mint celebrated the end of World War I with a special-themed silver coin representing hope and renewal.
The Peace Dollar was released in 1921 to circulate as the official dollar coin in the US until 1928 and again from 1934 to 1935.
The centennial of Peace Dollars' first issuance was commemorated in 2021 with a special edition, but its popularity made it a regular strike.
The proof finish applied to these coins enhances the serene visage of Lady Liberty and the powerful image of a perched eagle due to their proof finish that highlights the most intricate design elements. Those coins issued in the San Francisco Mint bear the “S” mint mark.

The Design

The reverse displays a peaceful bald eagle resting on a rock, holding an olive branch in its talon. It also contains the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “ONE DOLLAR,” and “PEACE.” The “S” mint mark is near the coin’s face value.
