2024-S PCGS PR-70 First Day of Issue 1 oz American Silver Eagle Proof Coin
The US Mint premiered the American Eagle Program in the bullion market in 1986 by introducing a silver bullion coin weighing 1 Troy oz of 99.9% fine silver, the American Silver Eagle coin.
Proof Silver Eagles were included in the series in the same year. Bullion and Proof Silver Eagles have equal weight, metal content, and purity settings. However, Proof Silver Eagles exhibit a mirror-like luster due to the proof finish.
Those with the “S” mint mark indicate they were issued at the San Francisco branch.
SD Bullion offers 2024-S 1 oz American Silver Eagle Proof Coins today, among those taken from the US Mint on the first day of their official release. They are sealed in PCGS slabs and graded as PR-70 coins.

The Design
The obverse replicates Adolph A. Weinman's Walking Liberty design from the 1917 Half-Dollar coin.
Lady Liberty, the national feminine guise, has the American flag draped over her shoulder, walking toward the sun while carrying oak branches. Her extended right arm symbolizes a welcoming gesture. It also contains the word "LIBERTY," the year of issuance, and the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST."
The reverse, designed by Emily Damstra, features a Bald Eagle perched on a branch with its wings spread. It is also engraved with "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "ONE DOLLAR," "1 OZ," and "FINE SILVER," indicating the coin’s face value, weight, and metal content, along with the motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM."
The "S" mint mark from the San Francisco Mint completes the design.
An NGC PF-70 First Day of Issue Coin
NGC - Numismatic Guaranty Company works independently from sovereign mints to certify coins using the Sheldon Scale. The scale ranks coins from 1 to 70 according to their condition.
NGC considers “First Day of Issue,” a coin purchased from the US Mint on the very first day of its official release and submitted to its appraisal.
PF stands for Proof Coin, indicating a coin produced for collection purposes, which exhibits mirror-like surfaces in contrast with frosted design elements.
