Coin Highlights

  • Contains ½ oz of 22k (.9167) fine gold;
  • Holds a face value of $25 and legal tender status;
  • Graded, certified, and encapsulated as an MS-70 coin by the NGC;
  • Minted in the first 30 days of production;
  • Saint Gaudens’ obverse design;
  • Jennie Norris’ new reverse mintage.

The Design

The obverse design was rescued from the Double Eagle Coin, created by Augustus Saint Gaudens, which dates back to 1905.

It displays Lady Liberty walking forward, enlightened by the sun rays in her background, with the US Capitol on her feet, heading to the future. She carries a torch and an olive branch, meaning light and peace.

“LIBERTY” is engraved on the upper rim, and the year of issuance is on the bottom.

The new reverse mintage is a celebration mark of the 35th-anniversary Eagles program. It showcases a left-profile close-up of a Bald Eagle with a hooked beak and deep gaze, designed by Jennie Norris.

Besides the two standard mottos “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST” engraved beneath “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” further inscriptions read “25 DOLLARS” for the denomination, and “½ OZ FINE GOLD,” for weight and metal content.

The Sheldon Grading Scale

The Sheldon Grading System establishes a standard code for ranking coins based on their condition and authenticity. It was originally released in 1949 and named after its creator, Dr. Willian Herbert Sheldon.

The scale goes from 70 to 1. The highest grade a coin gets, the more perfect it is.

Third-party services, like the NGC - Numismatic Guaranty Company, use it to assess and certify coins properly.

An MS-70 Coin

MS stands for Mint State. It means a particular coin presents the same condition as initially produced. It has never circulated and has no visible signs of wear, tear, scratching, or contact with other pieces.

Therefore, an MS-70 coin is considered a perfect coin.
