The Design

The famous right-profile bust of Queen Elizabeth II created by Jody Clark stamps the obverse of the series’ coin.

The engravings accompanying Her Majesty’s effigy describe the Queen’s name and reigning period, the coin’s origin, weight, fineness, metal content, and face value through “ELIZABETH II,” “1952-2022,” “AUSTRALIA,” “1/10 oz 9999 Au” and “15 DOLLARS.” 

The Dragon design features the mythical creature with a twisted body, long tails, and sharp paws, surrounded by waves and fog. It also features the Dragon’s corresponding Chinese symbol, the inscription “DRAGON 2024,” and “P125” because of the Perth Mint’s 125th anniversary.

The Year of the Dragon

For each year, the Chinese Calendar attributes an Astrological sign that corresponds to a particular animal. 

Therefore, that animal’s traits define its year’s fortune. 2024 is the Year of the Dragon, just as it was in 2012, 2000, 1988, and so on.
