Enhancing its successful Lunar Series III, the Australian Perth Mint added colored gold coins featuring the Year of the Dragon as the motif.

The Gold Lunar Series III is inspired by the Chinese Lunar Calendar. Each year, a new Astrological sign is depicted on the series' varied-sized silver and gold coins, according to that year's ascending sign.

Since 2024 is the Year of the Dragon, all the series' coins feature alluring dragon designs. In addition, the 2024 edition brings the “P125” mint mark, celebrating the 125th anniversary of the Perth Mint.

This coin, in particular, weighs 1/10 Troy oz of 99.99% pure gold and features the Blue Dragon.

The Design

The obverse features Jody Clark’s memorial effigy of Queen Queen Elizabeth II. 

The engravings accompanying Her Majesty’s effigy describe the Queen’s name and reigning period, the coin’s origin, weight, fineness, metal content, and face value through “ELIZABETH II,” “1952-2022,” “AUSTRALIA,” “1/10 oz 9999 Au” and “15 DOLLARS.” 

The Dragon design features this mystic creature imprinted in blue tones, with a twisted body, long tails, and sharp paws, surrounded by lighter blue waves and fog. 

It also features the Dragon’s corresponding Chinese symbol, the inscription “DRAGON 2024,” and “P125” because of the Perth Mint’s 125th anniversary.

Each year, the Chinese Calendar attributes an Astrological sign corresponding to a particular animal.
