After over 3 decades of yearly issues, the United States Mint decided to bring about some changes to the American Eagle program. Both the American Gold Eagle coin and the American Silver Eagle coin received new reverse designs. In addition, they incremented the coins with a reeded edge variation as an anti-counterfeiting measure. 

These enclosed black boxes contain 5 MintCertified™ sealed tubes. Each tube contains 20 Silver Eagles, for a total of 100 of these silver coins. The tubes came straight from the mint and were never opened. Hence, none of the American Silver Eagles within has been handled before, outside of the mint’s headquarters.

American Silver Eagle Design

The obverse of the American Silver Eagles is easily recognizable in the bullion coin industry as one of the most iconic designs in history. Adolph. A. Weinman created the design for the 1916 half-dollar coin. It would only be discontinued in 1947. Nevertheless, the United States Mint decided to revamp the design for the American Silver Eagle coins, launched in 1986. We can see a striding figure of Lady Liberty, with the American flag wrapped around Her shoulders. She holds branches of laurel and oak with her left arm. The right one is stretched forward, with the palms wide open facing up. In the background, we can see a blazing sun, rising above the landscape. The word “LIBERTY” arches the upper rim. The motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” is on the right, just above the artist's initials, “AW”. The mint year, “2022”, is on the bottom rim, below the Goddess’ left foot.

The new reverse design was created by AIP artist Emily Damstra. She wanted to portray a bald eagle in a natural environment, as opposed to the heraldic eagle we were used to seeing before. As such, she designed an eagle in flight, with its wings spread out. The eagle grasps a branch in its talons while looking down as if about to land and add a new piece to its nest. Surrounding the scene are the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “ONE DOLLAR 1 OZ. FINE SILVER”. To the right of the eagle is the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM”.

Mintage

Every single American Silver Eagle in this mini monster box came straight out from the mint. They were never touched after production. Both the mini box and each individual tube have a sticker emphasizing they are MintCertified™. 

Each American Silver Eagle contains 1 troy ounce of .999 pure silver content. They have a diameter of 40.6 mm (1.598 in) and are housed in 5 individual sealed tubes that hold 20 coins each.
