Series:
After the War of the Roses, a war for the crown between the Houses of Lancaster and York, the Tudor Dynasty was established. Following the marriage of these two families, Henry VII ascended to the throne and utilized heraldry as another means of expressing his power. After Henry VII died, his son, Henry VIII, ascended to the throne and maintained his father's custom of displaying his power by constructing 10 stone sculptures of monsters and legendary creatures about the perimeter of Hampton Court Palace. The Royal Tudor Beasts Collection is inspired by the mythical creatures that line the Moat Bridge at the Palace.
The Tudor Beasts Collection will consist of The Seymour Panther, The Lion of England, the Bull of Clarence, the Tudor Dragon, the Greyhound of Richmond, the Royal Dragon, the Yale of Beaufort, the Seymour Unicorn, the Queen’s Panther, and the Queen’s Lion over the next five years
Design:
The 2022 1 oz Tudor Beasts Lion of England Gold Coin is struck with one troy ounce of .9999 pure gold.
The Lion of England is a well-known symbol that has been featured in England's history. This beast is often associated with the regime's values of courage, strength, dignity, and pride.
The noble Lion that lines the Moat Bridge of Hampton Court Palace is depicted on the reverse face of this coin. The lion is depicted wearing a beautiful crown and wielding a shield with impaled arms. Henry VIII and his third wife, Jane Seymour, are represented by this coat of arms. The lion is brought to life by the coin's detailed detailing. The inscriptions "Lion of England," "1 oz," "Gold 999.9," and "2022" surround the image.
The obverse of this coin is comparable to that of other popular Royal Mint coins including the Gold Britannia coin. The iconic effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Jody Clark in 2015, is displayed in the center. At the age of 89, the Queen is depicted in all her glory. Around the Queen are engraved the phrases "Elizabeth II," "DG REG FD," and the face value of "100 Pounds."
