2015 1/10 oz First Special Service Force Gold Coin
The Royal Canadian Mint pays homage to the First Special Service Force, also known as the Devil’s Brigade by striking an alluring 1/10 oz Gold Coin.
The 1st Special Service Force was an elite-joint American-Canadian commando unit during World War II, established by Major Robert T. Frederick from the Operations Division of the U.S. General Staff. Formed in 1942, the unit trained at Fort William Henry Harrison near Helena, Montana. It played pivotal roles in Italy, and southern France before its disbanding in December 1944. Modern American and Canadian special operations forces trace their origins to this unit. In 2013, the United States Congress awarded the 1st Special Service Force the Congressional Gold Medal.
