2012 PCGS MS-69 DMPL 5 oz America the Beautiful Denali Silver Coin - John Mercanti Label

From 2010 to 2021, the America The Beautiful Quarter Program produced five quarter-dollar coins annually, each containing 5 Troy ounces of 99.9% fine silver and showcasing America's most iconic natural sites.

The Denali Silver Coin, released as the fifth coin in 2012 and the 15th in the series, highlights Denali National Park and Preserve.

Established in 1917 as Mount McKinley National Park in Alaska, the park's name was changed in 1980 to include additional preserved lands. Its dynamic glaciated landscape supports diverse wildlife, including grizzly bears, caribou, wolves, Dall sheep, and moose. Archaeological findings dating back over 12,000 years indicate seasonal use of this area by Alaska's indigenous people, likely for hunting large mammals, fishing, and gathering plants.

John M. Mercanti, the 12th Chief Engraver of the US Mint, created numerous designs for US circulating, commemorative, and bullion coins, including the original reverse of the Silver Eagles. In 2021, he was recognized as one of the most influential figures in numismatics.

At SD Bullion, you can find the 2012 5 oz America the Beautiful Denali Silver Coin, in deep mirror proof like appearance, certified as MS-69 coins, and sealed in PCGS slabs with the exclusive John Mercanti Label.

The accompanying engravings read “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “QUARTER DOLLAR.”

The reverse showcases a Dall sheep with Mount McKinley working as a backdrop. Inscriptions on this side read “DENALI,” “ALASKA,” “2012,” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”

A PCGS MS-69 DMPL "First Strike" Coin

Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) is globally acclaimed for evaluating and grading coins with the Sheldon Grading Scale, which rates coins from 1 to 70 based on their condition.

PCGS calls “First Strikes” the coins purchased from the original mint within the first 30 days of the official release and submitted to its appraisal.

MS stands for Mint State. Mint State coins are shaped as business coins. 69 is the grade attributed to coins whose flaws are almost invisible.

According to PCGS, DMPL stands for Deep Mirror Proof-Like and refers to coins struck for circulation but with unusual mirror-like fields and frosted design details that are very similar to Proof coins.
