2012 NGC MS-69 DPL First Releases 5 oz America The Beautiful Acadia Silver Coin

The America The Beautiful Quarter Program, a significant initiative by the US Mint, delivered 56 alluring silver coins from 2010 to 2021.

At each program year, the US Mint crafted five quarter-dollar coins, containing 5 Troy oz each, imprinted America’s most emblematic sites of natural and historical value.

The Acadia Silver Coin is the third strike of the 2012 edition and the 13th in the series.

Acadia National Park was established as a national site in 1916 when early 20th-century visionaries donated the land on the rugged coast of Maine to become the first national park east of the Mississippi River, where the tallest mountain on the U.S. Atlantic Coast is located.

The 2012 5 oz America The Beautiful Acadia Silver Coins are available for purchase at SD Bullion. These coins were taken from the US Mint within the first 30 days of their official release and graded by NGC as MS-69 Early Releases coins.

The Design

The obverse showcases George Washington's left-profile bust, designed by John Flanagan in 1932. The artistry follows the former President’s official portrayal designed by William Cousins in 1786.

The accompanying inscriptions read “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “QUARTER DOLLAR.”

The reverse showcases a view of the Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse and Acadia's rough coastline, including the lighthouse, pine trees, and the ocean. The engravings on this side read: “ACADIA,” “MAINE,” “2012,” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”

An NGC MS-69 DPL “Early Releases” Coin

Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) works independently of sovereign mints, evaluating and grading coins using the Sheldon Grading Scale, which rates coins from 1 to 70 according to their condition.

For NGC, “Early Releases” refer to coins purchased from the original mint within the first 30 days of their official release and taken to its appraisal.

MS stands for Mint State. Mint State coins are shaped as business coins. Grade 69 is attributed to coins whose flaws are almost invisible.

DPL refers to a deep proof-like finish, describing coins whose fields are deeply mirrored and resembling proof coins but are actually bullion coins.
