The America The Beautiful Quarter Program seeks to highlight America's most iconic spots, preserved as national sites due to their natural or historical significance. 

From 2010 to 2021, the program issued five silver coins annually, each weighing 5 Troy ounces and with a face value of 25 cents. 

The Grand Canyon Silver Coin, the fourth release of 2010 and the fourth in the series features the Grand Canyon in Arizona, which became a national site in 1893. This vast landscape spans 277 river miles, reaches up to 18 miles wide, and plunges a mile deep, offering stunning views.

These coins, in particular, were purchased from the US Mint within the first 30 days of their official release and sealed in a PCGS slab with an exclusive John Mercanti Label.

John M. Mercanti, the 12th Chief Engraver of the US Mint, created numerous designs for US circulating, commemorative, and bullion coins, including the original reverse of the Silver Eagles. In 2021, he was recognized as one of the most influential figures in numismatics.

The obverse of the coin features an image of George Washington, created by John Flanagan in 1932, based on the original design by William Cousins in 1786.

The reverse shows the granaries above the Nankoweap Delta in Marble Canyon near the Colorado River, which were used to store food and seeds between 1050 and 1150 A.D. 

This side includes the inscriptions "GRAND CANYON," "ARIZONA," "2010," and "E PLURIBUS UNUM."
