2009 PCGS MS-70 First Strike 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle Coin

The U.S. Mint launched the American Eagle Program in the numismatic market, debuting 1 Troy oz silver and gold bullion coins.

Gold Eagles, made of 22-karat gold, come in multiple sizes and finishes, featuring the iconic Bald Eagle and Lady Liberty, hallmarks of American coinage, as their standard designs.

The 1/4 oz Gold Eagle is a fractional 22-karat gold coin in the series. It is legal tender and USD 10 in denomination. The coin’s alloy includes 3% silver and 5.33% copper for added durability. Despite the alloy, it contains a full 1/4 oz of pure gold.

These coins, in particular, are 1/4 oz Gold Eagles purchased from the US Mint within 30 days of their official release.

The Design

The obverse depicts Lady Liberty striding forward with a torch and an olive branch, reflecting the nation’s path to enlightenment and peace.

It also contains the Capitol Building on the lower left and the year of issuance on the right.

The reverse portrays nesting Bald Eagles, accompanied by the engravings "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," the mottos "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST," the coin’s face value of "10 DOLLARS" and "1/4 OZ FINE GOLD."
