2007-W 1 oz American Silver Eagle Burnished Coin
The US Mint introduced American Silver Eagles to the numismatic world in 1986 as the first edition of the American Eagles Program, along with their counterparts, Gold Eagles.
The debuting coin was a one-ounce bullion coin made of 99.9% fine silver, a USD 1 face value, legal tender status, and an alluring design symbolizing American core values.
These specific coins are burnished versions, minted at the West Point branch, and feature the “W” mint mark. They differ from the bullion version in their satin look.

The Design
The obverse features the famous “Walking Liberty,” initially created by Adolph A. Weinman, to be on the 1917 US Half-Dollar coin and used until 1947.
It depicts Lady Liberty walking towards the sun, enveloped in the American flag, carrying laurel and oak branches. With her stretched arm, she welcomes those coming to a new beginning in the American lands.
The image also contains the words “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the year of issuance,
The reverse, created by the US Mint Cheif Engraver John Mercati, features the Heraldic Eagle, carrying the national shield, a banner stamped “E PLURIBUS UNUM” in its beak, and olive branch and arrows in its talons.
It includes thirteen five-pointed stars, representing the Thirteen Colonies, and the engravings “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR” describing the face value, weight, metal content, and purity data.
Burnished Coins
A Burnished American Eagle Coin results from a “burnishing” process, hence the name. It essentially means that the blanks are cleaned from all oxides formed during the annealing and rimming process. This way, burnished coins get a satin look and a smooth surface but less reflective luster than Proof American Eagles.
