The Design

The obverse design was rescued from the Half Dollar coin of 1917. 

Lady Liberty walks toward the sun rays, folded in the American flag, with oak branches on her left arm and an extended right arm. Hence, the coin’s moniker. The word “LIBERTY” lies on the upper rim, “IN GOD WE TRUST” aside, and the year of mintage on the bottom.

The 2007 Silver Eagle coin showcases the original reverse design, which depicts the heraldic eagle with wings open around a star-spangled shield. The eagle is carrying a banner written “E Pluribus Unum,” which means “out of many, one.” The thirteen stars above the eagle represent the original colonies. 

The image is surrounded by the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR,” which describe the coin’s weight, metal content, and denomination.
