2005-W NGC PF-70 1 oz American Silver Eagle Proof Coin - Edmund C. Moy Label

These Proof Silver Eagles were issued in 2015 in West Point and carry the “W” mint mark. They are also graded as PF-70 coins and sealed in NGC slabs with a label in honor of Edmund C. Moy.

During his tenure as the 38th Director of the US Mint from 2006 to 2011, Edmund C. Moy emerged as the Father of the Modern Coin Era, profoundly influencing the Mint's trajectory. With visionary fervor, he rejuvenated a floundering Mint by introducing groundbreaking designs. Moy's stewardship saw the birth of iconic series such as the 24k Gold Buffalo and the legendary 2009 Ultra High Relief, heralding a transformative era in numismatic history. Moreover, he orchestrated unprecedented production levels of gold and silver coins, catalyzing global demand for modern U.S. Coins.

Additionally, these coins are legal tender, containing 1 full troy ounce of .999 fine silver.

Today, SD Bullion has in stock 2005-W 1 oz American Silver Eagle Proof Coins, graded as PF-70 by NGC and sealed with a label in honor of Edmund C. Moy.

The Design

The obverse of Silver Eagles reproduces the 1917 Half-Dollar Coin, in which Adolph A. Weinman designed the Walking Liberty.

As Lady Liberty strides toward the sun's rays with the American flag draped on her shoulder, she welcomes new immigrants with oak and laurel branches that she carries. It also displays the word “LIBERTY,” the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the year of mintage.

The reverse was created by John Mercanti, the 12th Chief Engraver of the US Mint. His Heraldic Eagle has the National Shield on its chest, arrows and olive branches on its talons, and a banner with the inscription “E PLURIBUS UNUM” on its beak. Thirteen pointed stars above the Eagle represent the original colonies.

The “W” mint mark from the West Point branch is on the lower left, while the inscriptions describing the face value, weight, metal content, and purity encircle the image. They read “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR.”

Because it is a proof coin, its surfaces exhibit a mirror-like luster, which contrasts with the design’s frosted image.

An NGC PF-70 Coin

NGC, or Numismatic Guaranty Company, operates like other third-party entities in appraising and grading coins. They utilize the Sheldon Scale, a grading system from 1 to 70, to evaluate coins based on their condition.

PF stands for Proof Coin, indicating a coin produced for collection purposes, which exhibits mirror-like surfaces in contrast with frosted design elements. 70 is the highest grade and indicates a coin with no visible flaws.
