Buy 2001 American Silver Eagle Coins Online

The United States Mint is, no doubt, one of the most respectful precious metals refineries in the world. With four branches scattered around this continental country, in San Francisco, Denver, West Point, and Philadelphia, the US Mint produces not only all the circulating coins but also commemorative medals and bullion coins for collection and investment purposes. The American Eagle Program launched in 1986 with gold and silver bullion coins, along with proof versions. Both the American Gold Eagle and the American Silver Eagle are now the most sought-after bullion coins by investors worldwide. The program has expanded to include American Platinum Eagles and American Palladium Eagles as well.

2001 Silver Eagle Highlights:

  • Each Silver Eagle contains 1 troy ounce of .999 fine silver;
  • These coins are legal tender within the United States with a face value of $1 dollar;
  • 16th mintage of the American Silver Eagle coins;
  • The obverse design portrays a long-lasting favorite, the Walking Liberty, by Adolph A. Weinman, originally from the Half Dollar coin;
  • The reverse design depicts the Heraldic Eagle by John M. Mercanti;
  • Lowest Price Guaranteed at SD Bullion.

The 2001 Silver Eagle Design

The Silver Eagle designs on both verses remained the same from the first strike in 1986 until 2021. They honor two of America’s oldest and most renowned symbols: Lady Liberty, representing the ideals of freedom defended by the forefathers, and the bald eagle, a sample of the country’s rich fauna and unique history.

Silver Eagle Obverse Design

Lady Liberty is a recurrent effigy in American coinage. In this depiction, she is seen striding towards the west with her right arm stretched forward and the rising sun in the background. She holds branches of oak with her left arm, symbolizing the country’s strength and endurance. An American flag is wrapped around Her shoulders, blowing in the wind. The word “LIBERTY” appears on the outer rim, on top of the effigy, and the mint year below. Another inscription on this face of the coin is the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST”, positioned on the right face of the design.

The pattern is originally from 1916. It was created by Adolph A. Weinman for the Half Dollar coin, which circulated in the country until 1947. Because it had always been a favorite among the population, the US Mint decided to revitalize it in 1986 for the American Silver Eagles.

Silver Eagle Reverse Design

The reverse of the 2001 American Silver Eagles portrays the heraldic eagle, represented with its wings wide open and a striped shield on its chest. There are thirteen five-pointed stars above the eagle’s head, as a reminder of the country’s origins with the Thirteen Colonies. The eagle also holds a banner on its beak with the words “E PLURIBUS UNUM”, a Latin saying meaning “of many, one”. In other words, “of many states, one nation”. The motto was proposed by John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson for the Great Seal of the United States in 1776.

Other symbolism present in the design rests on the eagle’s talons: a bunch of arrows and an olive branch. These two elements reference a duality between the country’s constant readiness for war, but the everlasting desire for peace.

The eagle is surrounded by the inscription “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA 1 OZ. FINE SILVER ~ ONE DOLLAR”.

2001 Silver Eagles Mintage

The US Mint produced 9,001,771 American Silver Eagle bullion coins, along with 746,348 Proof Silver Eagles in 2001. This mintage experienced a slight decline in sales when compared to previous years.

Both coins contain 99.93% silver and 0.07% copper. The bullion version has no mint marks. As for the Proof Silver Eagles, production shifted from Philadelphia to West Point that year. Thus, 2001 Proof Silver Eagles have a “W'' mintmark, something that hadn’t occurred since the rare 1995-W Proof Silver Eagle.

Both versions have reeded edges and the same dimensions: diameter of 40.6 mm (1.598 inches), a thickness of 2.98 mm (0.117 inches), and a weight of 31.101 grams (1 troy ounce).
