$20 Liberty Double Eagle Gold Coin - Type II - XF - Random Years

The $20 Liberty Double Eagle Gold Coin represents an iconic piece of American craftsmanship with significant numismatic value. 

Beginning in 1850, the U.S. Mint issued these coins as regular $20 currency, containing .9675 ounces of gold, until 1907, when the $20 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle replaced them. 

Design modifications introduced slight variations, including changes to the reverse. The second series of these $20 Liberty coins, produced from mid-1866 to 1876, features the added motto “In God We Trust.”

The Design

The obverse depicts Lady Liberty enhanced by a tiara engraved with the word “LIBERTY" and is surrounded by thirteen five-pointed stars, which refer to the Thirteen Original Colonies. The year of mintage is at the bottom rim.

The reverse features the Heraldic Eagle, with spread wings, the national shield in front of its chest, arrows in its talons, and the banner “E PLURIBUS UNUM” in its beak. 

It is also inscribed with the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the coin's face value of "TWENTY D."
