The Design
On the obverse, George Washington’s portrayal consists of a hatless military man on horseback. The accompanying engravings read “GEORGE WASHINGTON,” “LIBERTY,” the designer’s initials “EJ,” and “250TH ANNIVERSARY OF BIRTH·1982.”
The reverse displays Mount Vernon, Washington’s home, along with the Heraldic Eagle at the bottom. The words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” and the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” arch over the image while “HALF DOLLAR” is inscribed at the bottom.
