The Design

The obverse showcases the Mexican Coat of Arms, featuring an eagle perched on a cactus, representing the nation, while a rattlesnake symbolizes foreign influence. 

The eagle’s victory over the snake signifies Mexico’s independence from Spanish rule. Surrounding the emblem are the words "ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS."

On the reverse, the angel of independence, Winged Victory, is portrayed with outstretched wings, holding broken chains and a laurel wreath, symbolizing freedom. 

Inscriptions on the coin include the face value "50 PESOS," its weight "37.5 Gr" (or 1.2057 oz), the phrase "ORO PURO" to denote pure gold, the year of independence "1821" on the lower left, and the minting year on the right.
