This stunning 1924 Peace Dollar has been certified genuine and graded Mint State 64 by NGC —one of two major coin grading companies trusted by collectors. The Philadelphia Mint produced far fewer Peace dollars in 1924 (11 million) than they did the previous 2 years (1923: 30 Million, 1922:51 million).The extraordinary design of the Peace Dollar has made it one of the most beloved coins ever produced by the US Mint. It’s classic symbols of Lady Liberty and the Bald Eagle were given an innovative and realistic restyling by artist Anthony de Francisci. The coin was specifically designed to represent the peace hoped for after victory in World War I. On the obverse, Lady Liberty’s serene expression and rayed crown are reminiscent of the Statue of Liberty while the reverse depicts a Bald Eagle at rest, holding an olive branch.Produced from 1921-1928, and again in 1934-35, this was the shortest as well as the last production run of a US silver dollar. This series is much sought after by collectors because of it’s breathtaking design and short series. All of the Philadelphia Mint Peace dollars can be obtained at relatively affordable prices in grades as high as this. While the key dates can be challenging to find (1921, 1928, and 1934), a collector can put together a high grade set of Peace dollars much easier than a Morgan Dollar set.
