The $20 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle Gold Coin, minted by the US Mint between 1907 and 1933, is considered one of the most stunning gold coins ever to circulate in the United States.

Designed by the famous sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens, the coin showcases a striking image of Lady Liberty and a soaring bald eagle. 

This coin, containing 0.9675 Troy ounces of gold, was the official $20 legal tender of its era. These coins, in particular, were issued in the San Francisco Mint, one of the US Mint branches, and bear the “S” mint mark.

The Design

On the obverse, Lady Liberty walks forward carrying a torch and an olive branch, in a symbol of development with enlightenment and peace.

The reverse features the Bald Eagle flying above the sun and the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “TWENTY DOLLARS.”

NGC, or Numismatic Guaranty Company, is a well-known third-party organization that evaluates and grades coins using the Sheldon Scale. This scale rates coins from 1 to 70 based on their condition.
