1899-S PCGS MS-62 $20 Liberty Double Eagle Gold Coin 

The Liberty Double Eagle, the official $20 circulating coin of the United States from 1850 to 1907, contains .9675 oz of gold. 

Designed by James B. Longacre, the fourth Chief Engraver of the US Mint, these coins feature some of the most iconic figures in American coinage: Lady Liberty and the Heraldic Eagle.

These coins, in particular, were issued in the San Francisco Mint, one of the US Mint branches, and bear the “S” mint mark on the reverse side.

The Design

The obverse showcases Lady Liberty wearing a tiara inscribed "LIBERTY." Her bust is encircled by thirteen six-pointed stars representing the original Thirteen Colonies. The year of mintage is at the bottom edge.

The reverse features the Heraldic Eagle with spread wings, arrows in its talons, the national shield on its chest, and the banner "E PLURIBUS UNUM" on its beak. 

The inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" encircle the eagle, and the coin's face value of "TWENTY DOLLARS" is engraved at the bottom.
