1894 NGC MS-62 $5 Liberty Half Eagle Gold Coin
From 1839 to 1908, the U.S. Mint produced Liberty Half Eagles as the widespread $5 circulation coin. These coins exhibit a stunning design, created by Christian Gobrecht, and contain 0.2419 troy ounces of gold.
Because of their gold content, many $5 Liberty Half Eagle Gold Coins, like most Pre-1933 Gold Coins, were confiscated, hoarded, and melted down following the 1929 economic collapse.

The Design
The obverse showcases Lady Liberty’s effigy wearing a coronet inscribed “LIBERTY.” The thirteen stars surrounding her left-profile bust represent the Thirteen Original Colonies, and the year of mintage is engraved at the bottom rim.
The reverse features the Heraldic Eagle, with the national shield stamped on its chest, olive branches and arrows in its talons, and the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” on a banner above its head.
The words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “FIVE D.” are engravings that inform the coin’s face value.
An NGC MS-62 coin

MS or Mint State designates a coin in the format of a business circulation coin. Grade 62 suggests that the coin may present marks and hairlines in focal areas but with an acceptable overall appearance.
